Dry needling North Sydney

Hornsby Physio & Chiro is also an expert in modern therapies for helping our clients in treating neck & back pain among many other things. This includes specialized dry needling which is an effective technique used for the treatment of muscular spasms and pain in many areas of the body. Dry needling takes a very traditional, but modern, approach by responding to anatomical design to target high-concern areas. It is backed by many decades of proper study and practice informed by western neurophysiological principles. Give us a call and we can help in breaking down things more simply in line with your unique needs and support requirements.

What is the difference between dry needling and acupuncture?

While both of these techniques look to target trigger points which cause muscular pain and the need for immediate muscular and joint pain relief, they originate from different principles. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice where needles are inserted into the body along its meridian lines in order to restore proper balance and energy flow throughout the body. Dry needling on the other hand involves the insertion of needles directly into the tender myofascial trigger point in the muscle. It is done at different locations and for different durations when compared to acupuncture. Dry needling increases blood flow to the areas of concern and triggers relaxation in the muscle fibres. This technique changes the way your body processes pain through a release of chemicals triggered by the needle insertion, and it happens quite quickly.

Is dry needling painful?

We use very thin needles for this technique and although you may feel a small pinch, it is not a painful procedure. We also prepare our clients for a brief feeling of dull pain in the referral zones afterwards which is a normal response to the tension slowly dissipating as the muscle relaxes.
